The first National Officers of the Chapter were Dr N.C Nwokolo of the Faculty of Internal Medicine serving as the National Chairman, while Dr P.O Fasan (Faculty of Community Health) and Dr W Kaine (Faculty of Paediatrics) were elected as the National Secretary and National Treasurer respectively for 1977 to 1981 tenure.
